McLallen House

The Cats
Our cat is not allowed into the guest rooms. She seems content to wander around on the first floor. As she is middle-aged she doesn't do much beyond sleep and eat these days. She is a good-natured animal; if she approaches you, she is just looking to be petted.

Franny is named for a member of J.D. Salinger's Glass family. She has always been the more shy of the two cats. For mysterious reasons she takes a shine to some guests and comes out to greet them immediately. Other guests will not see her at all.

Requiescat in pace
(July 4, 1996–

Zooey (we pronounced it 'zoo-ee') was Fran's brother - in Salinger's stories and as a matter of fact - and was the more outgoing member of the family.

During the winter months the cats spent most of their time curled up together in a chair. We knew when spring had truly arrived because they then separated and slept in different rooms.
