Our cats are not allowed into the
guest rooms. The black one seems content to wander around on the first
floor. As
she is
middle-aged, she doesn't do much beyond sleep and eat these days. She
is
a good-natured animal; if she approaches you, she is just looking
to be petted. The tabby is younger, more rambunctious, but also
friendly.
After
Zooey passed away Franny began to show signs of being lonely, so
Deirdre went to the SPCA and picked Cecilia out of
hundreds
of cats.
It took about two months for Franny to be civil to her, but
now they get along, pretty much.
Franny
is named for a member of J.D.
Salinger's
Glass family. She has always been the more shy of the two cats. For
mysterious
reasons she takes a shine to some guests and comes out to greet them
immediately. Other guests will not see her at all.
Requiescat in pace
(July 4, 1996–
Sept. 2, 2009)
Zooey
(we pronounced
it 'zoo-ee') was Fran's brother - in Salinger's stories and as a matter
of fact - and was the more outgoing member of the family.
During
the winter months the cats spent most of their time curled up together
in a chair. We knew when spring had truly arrived because they then
separated and slept in different rooms.
